In the early 70's Larry Blackmon formed the seven-piece band East Coast who had a house gig at
'Small's Paradise' in Harlem, which was co-owned by the famous basketball player Wilt
Chamberlain. They released one album called "East Coast" in 1973 on Encounter Records
featuring vocalist Gwen Guthrie.

Over time, the band evolved into the thirteen-piece "New York City Players", which also
featured keyboardist Gregory Johnson from East Coast, and were heavily influenced by groups
like Funkadelic. Upon signing a contract, they changed their name to Cameo, and went on to
record an astonishing seventeen albums.
Cameo comes to perform in Amsterdam for a fourth time after the fantastic 1987 Escape gig,
less impressive 1996 @Marcanti Plaza(bad location) gig and good 2001 @Drum Rhythm gig.
