Upcoming event:Cameo@Paradiso,thursday 16th april 2009
Ticketsales start saturday 07th march.
In the early 70's Larry Blackmon formed the seven-piece band East Coast who had a house gig at 'Small's Paradise' in Harlem, which was co-owned by the famous basketball player Wilt Chamberlain. They released one album called "East Coast" in 1973 on Encounter Records featuring vocalist Gwen Guthrie.
Over time, the band evolved into the thirteen-piece "New York City Players", which also featured keyboardist Gregory Johnson from East Coast, and were heavily influenced by groups like Funkadelic. Upon signing a contract, they changed their name to Cameo, and went on to record an astonishing seventeen albums. Cameo comes to perform in Amsterdam for a fourth time after the fantastic 1987 Escape gig, less impressive 1996 @Marcanti Plaza(bad location) gig and good 2001 @Drum Rhythm gig.

Climaxing with his own song "House Party", Fred Wesley and the New Jb's funked up the Sugar Factory in Amsterdam on a drizzly monday night. With the crowd participating "Party,Party", one encore followed this 1hour45minute fantastic show. Playing only one ballad the set featured 70's Jb's songs only, much to the delight of the audience. Featuring Amsterdam's own Susanne Alt on alt sax, flute and vocals, the crowd was jumping and the beat was pumping! Finishing with an impressive, pulsating solo Susanne lived up to the home crowd's anticipation. She joins Fred's tour with 3 gigs in France later this week.
